Red Thai kratom is the flagship strain of the country of Thailand. In 1943, the Thai government outlawed kratom, but lifted the ban in 2021. During this time of restriction, the Thai kratom strain was kept in circulation by cultivators who smuggled cuttings of the variety across borders to Indonesia. Today, some Red Thai supply may come from its native country, but the majority of the product still comes from established farms in Indonesia.
