Both strains are considered traditional red varieties and share a relatively slow overall tempo. Red Bali is usually placed closer to the slowest end of the spectrum, while Red Sumatra is often described as balanced-to-slow. This places Sumatra slightly nearer to the middle of the red category. As a result, Red Sumatra may appear a bit more moderate in rhythm than the deeper pace associated with Red Bali.
